Education: Special Kids Photography of America Workshop {Montreal Photographer}

March 5, 2010 · Giving back

I know a few photographers read this blog (hi!), so I just wanted to mention that I recently attended an online webinar on photography of special kids. The webinar focused on the unique needs of children with special needs. The organization also offers longer workshops and gives accreditation. There is autism in my family, so this is an important topic to me.

If you would like more information about the organization and the services they offer, please check out their website.

Photos for Haiti {Montreal Photographer}

January 19, 2010 · Giving back

I’m donating all sales from my Red Bubble account to Haiti relief. You can purchase cards or prints of some of my favourite non-people photos. These are floral and landscape photos I have taken around Montreal, the Eastern Townships (Lennoxville, Knowlton and Bolton Centre), as well as other places throughout the world. I like to travel. :)

And it is video time. These are just a few of the images. Again, there is music so you may want to mute if it isn’t your thing.

Go here (printing is in the US):

**And if you want prints, but don’t want to purchase from the States, please contact me directly with the image and size you would like. :)

Help-Portraits {Montreal Photographer}

November 26, 2009 · Giving back

Help-Portraits is a fast growing movement that started about three month and that you probably haven’t heard anything about.

Basically, it is about photographers giving back to the community. Specifically, it is about photographers taking pictures of people who are less fortunate for any assorted reason (financial, health, family situation…).

Globally, close to 2000 photographers in over 40 countries around the world are involved. In Montreal, we have a core group of about 20 photographers who are working on planning the event.

The goal is to do a shoot on December 12th. But you wont see any images anywhere: not on any websites, in portfolios, on blogs… The photographers are not expected to make any gain from this, outside of the gift of giving of one’s time.

If you are a photographer, I suggest visiting the website to see how you can help out. Help-portrait website

If you are not a photographer, why don’t you think about something you can do to help someone? It can be fairly simple…give someone on the street a coffee, or a donut…heck, smile at everyone you see. A smile…usually makes someone smile back. And that is a good thing. :)

{{on a technical note. I will be doing some back-end work on the blog in the next few days. Some things may be a bit wonky, but please be patient.}}

NILMDTS {Montreal Photographer}

October 23, 2009 · Giving back

The birth of a child is usually a wonderful event. Exhausting, yes, but exhilarating at the same time. Unfortunately, sometimes things go wrong. Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS) is an international organization that provides free photographic services to families who have to face the death of their newborn.

I really joined this organization because I believe in giving back, and the importance of photographic memories. And last night I was contacted for the first time.

I will be honest and let you know that I am scared. This will not be easy, nor do I want to do anything that would cause additional stress to the parents. But as long as I am respectful and discreet, I will be able to give the parents something to help them remember their child, a child who will always be their child, their angel.

For more information on NILMDTS, please visit the website.

Edited to add: in the end, the family chose not to have photographs taken.
